Skylight Tax Credit Information

Federal Tax Credit

At VELUX, we aim to provide the best daylighting products that offer the benefits of natural light and fresh air and demonstrate our company’s overall commitment to sustainability. Because skylights may also offer energy-efficiency benefits, we encourage our customers to look for opportunities through tax incentives that may help save money when installing these products.

As a skylight manufacturer, we have always recommended that consumers seek professional opinion before claiming any tax credit.

After a recent review of US tax law, we find that we are unable to certify that any solar powered skylight, accessory or related installation cost qualify under the Residential Clean Energy Credit 25(D). As a result, VELUX will refrain from promoting the IRS code section 25(D) as a consumer incentive.

Consumers should always seek professional tax advice when making a final determination on any individual tax credit qualification.

Amid rising electricity and home energy costs across the country,
the Inflation Reduction Act makes installing products with solar products
an attractive investment
for homeowners.

With the new legislation’s Residential Clean Energy Credit, you can subtract 30 percent of the cost of installing solar heating, electricity generation, and other solar home products including solar powered skylights and even sun tubes with an installed solar powered night light from your federal taxes. The credit is a reboot of an older, less valuable federal tax credit and will be available until 2032. That means homeowners considering solar installations have plenty of time to consider their options.

What do I need to do?

When the product is installed: Keep your receipts for total price paid (product and installation) for one of the qualifying products and attach them to a completed
Velux Federal Tax Credit - Manufacturers Certification Statement or a
RediLight Federal Tax Credit - Manufacturers Certification Statement
and keep for your records.

When it is tax time: Fill out IRS Tax form 5695 and submit it with your taxes.
Enter this tax credit off of form 5695 on your 1040 form.

IRS Notice 2009-41 suggests the taxpayer is not required to attach this certification statement to their tax return. However, the taxpayer should retain this certification as part of their tax records.

As in all tax matters, the taxpayer is advised to consult their tax professional.
We assume no liability regarding the homeowner’s ability to obtain tax credits.
